ColorShield™ Water Slide Restoration Coating
DESCRIPTION: FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY. READ PRODUCT DATA & MSDS SHEET CAREFULLY BEFORE USE. SLIDERENU® coatings have been uniquely formulated to protect, restore and rehydrate dull color faded and sun damaged water slide surfaces.
They can also be used to rejuvenate fiberglassmade water park features and fiberglass boat hulls.
The coatings have outstanding abrasion resistance to body riders and good abrasion resistance to rafts, inner tubes and mats.
They can be used on all interior and exterior water slide surfaces.
All SLIDERENU® coatings are suitable for immersion,
have excellent resistance to ultra violet light degradation and provide longterm gloss and color retention to all types of water slide surfaces.
These highsolids coatings form a molecular bond with the water slide surface that, when cured,
is harder than the factory applied gel coat finish. They have a very short pot life (less than 20 minutes)
and may be hand applied or sprayed using plural component spray equipment.
SLIDERENU® coatings can be cured at temperatures as low as 40°F or 5°C and at high levels of humidity with proper procedures.
CHEMICAL DESCRIPTION: SLIDERENU® coatings are very highsolids (+/98%), extremely highgloss,
ultralow VOC (< 5grams/liter), twopart polyurethane/urea resin system with a uniquely modified nonHAZMAT hardener.
STORAGE: Store all SLIDERENU® products in a clean, warm area where the temperature remains between 6090°F or 1530°C.
Cold products are very viscous and will be difficult to mix and apply.
Products shipped during cold months can remain cold for many days even when stored as recommended.
Heating of the individual components may be required to bring the products to the recommended temperatures.
This product has a minimum shelf life of one (1) year when stored at 70°F or 20°C in the original sealed container.
SURFACE PREPARATION: Before applying to any water slide surface, it is critical to remove wax, release agents,
sun tan and sun screen lotions, hard water mineral deposits, calcium scale buildup, rust stains, mold,
mildew and all other surface contaminants with a pressure washer and SlideCare™ cleaning products; SlideSoap™ and SlideDetergent™.
For tough to remove surface contaminants and scale, use Calcitrol™.
(Refer to the Product Data Sheet for Application Instructions for all SlideCare™ products).
The surface should be sanded with 100 grit silicon carbide sandpaper using an orbital or dualaction sander in order to create a
good adhesion profile for the SLIDERENU® Adhesion Base Coat (ABC) clear epoxy primer.
After sanding, rinse thoroughly with DEIONIZED WATER (recommended) to eliminate microscopic hard water mineral deposits from
clinging to the cleaned surface. Let surface dry completely. Wipe area to be coated with a clean lintfree white cloth and MEK solvent.
IMPORTANT: If the surface is not void of contaminants, sanded, thoroughly rinsed with DEIONIZED WATER and wiped down with MEK solvent,
the coating may not adhere properly.
After the surface has been wiped with MEK solvent, apply SLIDERENU® Adhesion Base Coat (ABC)
clear epoxy primer in accordance with label instructions. IMPORTANT: The ABC primer must be used prior to applying the initial
SLIDERENU® finish coat and all subsequent repair or rework applications of the finish coat.
APPLICATION EQUIPMENT: Brushes – short bristle, nylon/polyester/foam and nonshedding. Rollers – short nap (¼" max.)
nonshedding, mohair or high density foam roller cover with a phenolic core. Pads – ¼" synthetic applicator pads.
Replace when brushes, rollers and pads become stiff. Spray Equipment – plural component airless system.
MIXING: SLIDERENU® finish coatings are very viscous, nearly 100% solids,
and need to be thinned with Xylene solvent prior to application.
REFER TO FRONT OF THE LABEL FOR THE PROPER MIXING WEIGHT AND VOLUME MIXING RATIOS; (A)Base, (B)Hardener and (C)Xylene solvent.
The maximum amount of Xylene that may be used is 12 ounces/gallon of mixed product. The temperature of the Base (A) and Hardener (B)
portions should be between 7080°F or 2027°C. Mix them separately to ensure uniform consistency.
Pouring from one container to the other (boxing) during mixing is very helpful to ensure complete mixing.
Mix the products using a paint agitator on slow speed until no streaking is observed, about 12 minutes.
ONCE THE PRODUCT IS MIXED, APPLY IMMEDIATELY. Do Not Let Stand. The activated coating must be used within twenty (20) minutes of
initial mixing of the, Base (A), Hardener (B) and Solvent (C). Pot life is significantly reduced if ambient
temperature exceeds 85°F or 29°C. If using more than one kit, do not mix kits at the same time.
Box separately the remaining unused/unmixed Part (A) and Part (B) with the next unused/unmixed kit Part (A) and Part (B) to
obtain color and hardener consistency between kits. Do not leave containers in direct sunlight.
APPLICATION: For hand application, immediately break down the full unit kit into smaller manageable
portions such as roller pans or small buckets; about 1 quart of mixed product per applicator is recommended.
This will keep the product cooler and improve usable life. Kits should be broken down by weight using a scale or
volume using a measuring beaker. (See Front of Label for Mixing Ratio.) For interior RAFT riding paths,
the surface profile should be a minimum of 11DFT mils. For interior BODY riding paths, the surface profile
should be a minimum of 7 DFT. For ALL exterior surfaces, the minimum thickness is 3 DFT mils.
Theoretical coverage is 80 Sq. Ft. per gallon at 20 DFT mils, 160 Sq. Ft. per gallon at 10 DFT mils and 320 Sq. Ft.
per gallon at 5 DFT mils. Maximum Film Thickness is 40 DFT mils. IMPORTANT: The initial Color Shield finish coat must be applied as soon as the ABC primer is tack free.
The second finish coat, if necessary, must be applied as soon as the ABC primer is tack free.
The recoat time is approximately 2 hours at 70°F or 21°C. Minimum Application Temperature is 50°F or 10°C.
Tack Free in approximately 2 hours at 70°F or 20°C.
Functional Cure in 4 hours at 70°F or 20°C. Full Cure in 72 hours at 70°F or 20°C. If the finish coat cannot be applied
within the tack free window (approximately 2 hours), the surface must be sanded with 100 grit sandpaper,
rinsed and wiped down with MEK solvent before applying the finish coating.
Failure to sand, rinse and solvent wipe the surface may cause the topcoat not to adhere properly.
IMPORTANT: Pot life is 20 minutes and recoat time is approximately 2 hours at 50% humidity and 77°F or 25°C temperature.
Drying times are dependent upon temperature and humidity conditions. High humidity can speed up dry time considerably.
The Part (B) Hardener is very sensitive to moisture and should always be kept sealed when not in use.
CLEAN-UP: Use PM Acetate (recommended), Xylene, Butyl Cellosolve Acetate, Toluene or MEK to clean up spray equipment.
Wash hands with a mild citrusbased soap.
WARNING: Use only with adequate ventilation when applying indoors.
Avoid breathing vapor and spray mist. USE A BREATHING MASK AND PAINTER'S HOOD. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
